Fall Equinox Rituals: Release, Renewal & Ancestor Connection
The Fall Equinox is more than just a change of season—it’s a sacred invitation to pause, release, and realign. Spiritually, the equinox represents balance: equal day and night, light and shadow, holding on and letting go. Many traditions see this turning point as the perfect time to honor transitions, release old patterns, and prepare for the season ahead.
In this episode of the Mother Tree Network Podcast, I share a guided journey into the spiritual meaning of the Fall Equinox, the power of the lunar eclipse, and how you can use these energies for your own healing and transformation. Together we’ll explore rituals of letting go, journaling practices, and ways to deepen ancestor connection during this powerful season.

…you’re in the right place.
Episode Summary
Fall Equinox Podcast: How to Use Equinox and Eclipse Energy for Release and Renewal
What is the spiritual meaning of the Fall Equinox?
The Fall Equinox is a powerful time for balance, release, and renewal. In the northern hemisphere, the earth itself is letting go—trees are dropping their leaves, plants are releasing seeds, and nature is preparing for rest. Spiritually, this season invites us to practice acceptance and the art of letting go.
On the Mother Tree Network podcast, I share how the Equinox and Eclipse energies can help us evolve, connect more deeply with our ancestors, and step into greater love and compassion.
How can the Equinox help with releasing grief?
Fall is a season when many of us feel grief—whether it’s about relationships, transitions, or simply the cycles of life. The Equinox offers us permission to allow grief, to honor it, and to use it as a doorway to release.
When we let ourselves fully acknowledge what is going, we create space for what is coming. This practice of surrender can be spiritually nourishing, even though it’s often difficult.
How does the Lunar Eclipse energy support transformation?
During this episode, we also worked with the energy of a Super Moon Lunar Eclipse in Pisces. Eclipses often act like plot twists in our lives—an ending, a beginning, or a major shift. Some changes are initiated by us, while others arrive unexpectedly.
Pisces energy highlights compassion and self-compassion. This eclipse energy asks:
What can we release that gets in the way of love?
Why is self-love important during release work?
Through my own journey, I’ve realized that self-love is the foundation of true liberation. Without it, it’s difficult to:
- Admit mistakes without defensiveness
- Say no when we need to
- Avoid resentment and burnout
When we release self-judgment, we can stand rooted in love. The Eclipse energy helps illuminate the hidden judgments and old stories that keep us from embracing ourselves fully.
What journaling practice can I use during the Fall Equinox?
Grab your journal and try this practice:
- At the top of your page, write:
“What I’m really mad at myself about is…” - Free-write for five minutes. Let whatever comes through flow onto the page. There’s no right or wrong answer.
- Later, return to what you wrote and notice patterns, judgments, or attachments you may want to release.
This practice helps bring hidden beliefs into the light, so they can be released with support from ancestors, the earth, and the moon.
What does “let go what’s going, let come what’s coming” mean?
I’ve been working with a phrase from yoga nidra:
“Let go what’s going. Let come what’s coming.”
When we cling to what is already leaving, we create suffering. When we open our hands and hearts, we allow new energy, opportunities, and relationships to arrive in their own time.
This phrase is a simple but powerful mantra for the Equinox season.
How can I use the moon to support release rituals?
Many cultures see the moon as a grandmother—powerful, protective, and nurturing. During your release practice, imagine placing your burdens, judgments, and hidden beliefs into her lap. Ask her to help transmute and dissolve them so they no longer hold you back.
By working with the moon in this way, you engage with ancient rhythms that support healing and renewal.
What ritual can I do on the Fall Equinox?
Here’s a simple Equinox ritual you can try:
- Journal about what you are letting go of and what you are inviting in.
- Under the moonlight, read your words aloud.
- Offer what you’re releasing to the earth—burn the page, bury it, or release it into flowing water.
- Speak your intention for what you are welcoming in this new season.
This creates a sacred container for transformation.
How do I connect with my ancestors during this season?
Fall and winter are powerful times for ancestor connection. You don’t need a complicated ritual. Simply invite your ancestors in:
- Speak to them in prayer or meditation.
- Set a candle or small offering on a table.
- Ask for their support in releasing what no longer serves you.
This connection brings strength, grounding, and guidance as you move through seasonal transitions.
What would you love this Fall?
Beyond letting go, the Equinox also invites you to dream into what you would love. Ask yourself:
- What would I love for myself this Fall?
- What would I love for my family?
- What would I love for my community?
Write it out. Let it be bigger than what feels “safe” or “reasonable.” Then ask: What scares me about this becoming real? This helps uncover inner resistance so you can release it too.
Guided Heart-Centered Meditation
To close, here is a short grounding practice:
- Sit comfortably and feel your hips and feet supported by the ground.
- Imagine a gateway in the arches of your feet.
- Inhale from the soles of your feet up to your heart.
- Retain the breath, let it circulate in your heart center.
- Exhale, releasing doubts, criticism, and anything that is not love.
Repeat this three times, allowing yourself to feel lighter with each breath.
